Homemade Dairy Free Irish Cream
Check the notes area for how to make the dairy free sweetened condensed milk - there are ready-made dairy free options available and I will link those, but I found it easier (and cheaper) to make my own.
Ingredients
Instructions
- Whisk the cocoa powder and a spoonful of cream together in the bottom of a 4-cup pyrex or pitcher and form a paste.
- Gradually whisk in the remaining cream, keeping a smooth consistency as you go.
- Whisk in the remaining ingredients, taste test, and adjust to taste.
- Transfer into a 32 oz mason jar or into smaller mason jars to give as gifts!
Notes
I adapted this recipe from Smitten Kitchen for the Irish Cream.
To make your own Dairy Free Sweetened Condensed Milk:
- 2 cups unsweetened non-dairy milk - the creamiest you can find. I use Elmhurst Cashew
- 3/4 cup cane sugar
- 4 tbsp salted vegan butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- In medium sauce pan over medium-low heat whisk the milk and sugar together.
- Bring to a low simmer, whisking often until milk reduces by half - about 30 minutes
- Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla. Allow to cool completely before transferring to a mason jar or adding to your Irish Cream recipe.
